Floriade is an annual floral display in Canberra that has been a popular attraction for over thirty years. It brings plenty of visitors to Australia’s capital city, and has always been held in beautiful Commonwealth Park, next to Lake Burley Griffin.
Here is an example of the scene at Floriade in previous years:
Months ago, as Covid Times took hold around the world, the local government decided that Floriade could not be held in its usual form this year. However, in 2020 it has been reimagined. Small floral displays have been spread around the city and suburban shopping centres.
It makes a nice addition to the spring flowers emerging in parks and gardens around Canberra, so I thought I would share it with you.
I’m finding that 2020 seems to be rushing by, so all these flowers brings a lovely reminder that spring is here and summer is on its way.

It’s great that people are finding ways to still participate on a small scale with Floriade. You are one of the first people I’ve heard say that 2020 seems to be rushing by. I’ve said the same thing since I retired four years ago. That was until this year.😎

Thanks Pete – it is nice to see people still trying the most of things. Everyone I know here seems to find that the year is racing by in a Covidly unreal sort of way. I agree with you, since retirement every year goes faster than the previous one. Toni

Lovely to see some colour. Days are getting colder here and things seem to be going in the wrong direction. I can’t wait for 2020 to be over, to tell you the truth. Thanks for the lovely break, Toni.

Thank you so much, Olga – it always seems strange to think our weather is on opposite sides of the spectrum. 2020 has been horrendous – I hope next year will be better. Toni

I’m glad Floriade was able to continue in a very different format. to previous years. Lovely photos Toni! My granddaughter’s daycare centre had some flowers given to them and they grew them with help from the children. A lovely gesture.
