Reviews – for books by Patricia Furstenberg, Jacquie Biggar and Annette Rochelle Aben.

Happy New Year everyone. Today I’d like to share my first three book reviews for the year: Transylvannia’s History A-Z: 100 Word Stories by Patricia Furstenberg, Perfectly Imperfect by Jacquie Biggar, and Tell Me A Story: in 99 Words by Annette Rochelle Aben.

I’m no longer writing reviews in Amazon, because my last three were rejected and so I’ve decided to leave them alone for a while. I’ll just be posting them on Goodreads and Bookbub.

Transylvania’s History A to Z: 100 Word Stories by Patricia Furstenberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A glimpse into the history of Transylvania
Furstenberg’s potted history of Transylvania is a very entertaining and informative short read.
The 100-word stories are a blend of fiction and non-fiction related to the history of Transvylvania, and all are accompanied by an interesting image. I had heard of Transylvania, and particularly the infamous Vlad the Impaler. But thanks to the author, I feel I’ve now been taken on a journey through the history of this fascinating and beautiful area. I now know so much more about it, and have glimpsed the wealth of history in that area.
Some of my favourites were:
A Paleolithic Murder
Greed, of the Roman Kind
Vlad the Impaler
and
Wars with Ottomans.
Highly recommended for an enriching fast read.

Perfectly Imperfect by Jacquie Biggar

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A perfect romance

This is a delightful contemporary romance – a boy meets girl story with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader enthralled to the very end. Georgina has started a meal delivery company with a unique twist – but now it’s in serious financial trouble. She has to merge with a big corporation – and along comes Rhys, son of the owner, who’s been told to sell the company out from under her.

Romance is in the air but so is the conflict, and you’ll wonder how the two of them could ever resolve their differences. The author is a master of the genre, and her witty writing and great characters make for a fabulous read. Highly recommended.

Tell me a story: in 99 words by Annette Rochelle Aben

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a delightful collection of ultra-short stories. The author is clearly a master at this form of writing, and I found I could not stop reading until the end. Each story gives us a surprise – whether it’s through humour, an unexpected twist, tugging at our heartstrings or reminding us about the human condition. Among my favourites were Drama Lama, Indian Creek, Giddy Up Go and Dead Letters.
This is perfect for someone wanting to while away an hour or two with a relaxing, entertaining read.

Nice to see you blogging again, Toni! Thanks for the reviews. I like titles like Perfectly Imperfect. What a weird deal with Amazon. Did they give you any explanation?

Thanks so much, Pete – it was a lot of fun. They just sent a list of general reasons, and I couldn’t work out what I had done wrong. My reviews seemed perfect to me. I don’t want to argue with them. Toni

Thank you so much for reading and mentioning my book in such great company! Jacquie Biggar and Annette Rochelle Aben are accomplished authors and I am familiar with their beautiful writing.
I have problems with Amazon too, Toni. More reasons for me to highly appreciate this blog post. 🙂

Excellent reviews, Toni. I’ve read Jacquie’s Perfectly Imperfect and thought it was great. And though I haven’t read these books from Patricia and Annette, I’ve read others that I thoroughly enjoyed. Sorry to hear about your Amazon issues. I had a review rejected last week and wasn’t happy about it. But there’s no point arguing. Goodreads and Bookbub are great alternatives. 🙂

Great reviews Toni. Thanks for introducing us to these books. Congrats to Annette, Patricia and Jacquie for the reviews. But I was dismayed to hear that Amazon is blowing off your reviews. 😦 Hugs xx
